Today is the peregrine day, so I wake up at 3.15 to be in the blind at 5.45. Unfortunately the blind is about 35/40 minutes of walk from the car park, which is about 45/50 minutes from my house. The path for arriving to the blind it isn't so simple because it's easy to get lost, especially in the dark, ma with a gps software we can arrive without any problem (fatigue apart because it's all up).
In the Oristano area there is a pond where 3 or 4 osprey (Pandion haliaetus) arrive each year to winter in Sardinia from northern Europe, with a much less rigid climate. As a nature photographer it's not the first time I'm going to see and photograph this hawk (here's the page with all my photos), but I just wanted to enjoy a quiet day inside the Nature and admire the evolution of this magnificent raptor.
Last year for the first time I managed to make a couple of shots of a Sardinian deer during the season of loves (season that starts in September generally), when the male to attract the female emits special guttural sounds similar to a roar (but which reminds me of a poorly digested digestion) called brambles. Since the experience was interesting this year, we decided to try again on Mount Lerno, that of the photo, near Pattada, a typical Sardinian country famous for the Pattadesi, a tipical Sardinian kinfe..
Arrival as it is always at dawn and after leaving the car drives us to the area where they are most visible (according to the forest guards), and after the first bramit in the distance we are very confident for some sighting. But time passes between the wind and the temperature not really summer, to those heights we are forced to cover up and repair it behind some rock. In the meantime, we hear some close-knit bushes. Let's look at the binoculars because we seem to see some movement in the dense vegetation, but nothing for sure, it could be just the wind or some passing bird.
Time passes but at the end of the Sardinian deer there is no trace. The area is definitely suitable because we have seen many of its excrements and fingerprints, but as always with wild animals, you are never sure to see them close enough, so at about lunch time we go away.
PS. Not that we were disappointed with the failure, but to refocus, we went to Oschiri to buy the panadas .... I obviously took those stuffed vegetables, and since they were still hot I did not give him a truce If you come from those parts I advice you because there is a small shop selling panadas to craftsmanship
In the heart of Sardinia there's a place where the Nature has expressed itself in a unique way. This place is the Su Stampu 'e Su Turrunu, where you can find a very beautifull waterfall coming from a hole in the rock. The waterfall fall in a little lake and then it creates a small river that flows downstream. The environment where the waterfall is located is a little gorge where the water flows creating some little crystal pools, inside rocks and trees like a magic place. To arrive at the waterfall is quite simple, and if you have an off road car you could avoid the main and long path up to the parking, otherwise you have to leave tha car on the road, and then follow the signals walking into the Addolì wood. The distance it isn't big and you can arrive at destination in about 30/40 minutes on foot from the car, instead of 10 minutes if you have an off road car.
In this transition period, both meteorological and animal behavior (winter is at the door and animals are preparing to deal with it, while some have already emigrated elsewhere), it's easy to go looking for other subjects, especially regarding the landscape. In fact, looking for some beautiful glimpse to take some photos in the area of Tempio, we found ourselves in a small oak forest where some trees had big holes. Inspecting them better, one of them also had a large longitudinal split from the ground where, inside, there were a lot of pellets.
The pellets are the indigest part, bones, hairs, feathers, of the prey that are often expelled shortly before eating a new prey (I seen from a buzzard, for example), and they are like a compact and elongated feces.
